Meet our Staff
We are pleased to introduce you to Doctors Greg
and Gwyn
Mathis. They began the Brookwood Animal Clinic practice
in Jackson, Georgia in 1994. Dr. Greg and Dr. Gwyn Mathis
practice a unique form of quality veterinary medicine. Often
spending well over an hour with clients who have special
medical concerns. They set a high standard of care at
Brookwood Animal Clinic, offering a very "open" and unique
practice style to our clients. Encouraging pet parents with
a hospitalized pet to visit their babies often. In some case
being present during procedures. Dr. Greg says " I want our
clients to know what goes on behind the exam room doors."
The doctors have also opened up their practice to the
public, offering special tours that include individual,
civic group and home school students. Born and raised in
Georgia, Dr. Gwyn married Dr. Greg in 1985, and they have
two daughters Rachel and Georgia.
Dr.
Greg
is a graduate of University of Georgia
Veterinary School. His expertise includes specializing
in orthopedic treatments and treating chronic ear
disease. Dr. Greg participates in lectures often,
helping other practices gain better knowledge of
veterinary practices and procedures. Dr. Greg was one of
the pioneers for introducing the three-year vaccine
protocol in Georgia. Dr. Greg recently donated a
Microchip scanner to the Butts County Animal Control, so
they could scan lost animals and possible return them to
their owners. Dr. Greg's special interest outside the
clinic include reading, caving and repelling.

Dr. Gwyn is also a graduate of the University of
Georgia, with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She
has a special interest in radiology, specifically
ultrasound procedures. Dr. Gwyn sponsors a job shadowing
project with the Health Care Science class a Jackson
High School. She is also a frequent lecturer at career
day in the local schools. Dr. Gwyn's special interests
include caving, repelling, crochet and canoeing.
Dr. Erin Bell, joined our practice in July of
2005. She is a recent graduate of the University of
Georgia with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Her
accolades include Magna Cum Laude with departmental
honors and early admission to the University of Georgia
Veterinary School. Her special interests include surgery
and exotic animals. Dr. Bell's desire is to become a
Veterinarian started very early in life.
She understood
the tremendous commitment facing her and rose above the
challenge to become an accomplished and respected
Veterinarian. Dr. Bell and Dr. Gwyn Mathis often speak
to our youth tour groups with the anticipation that one
of them might "Chase the Dream".
Our Practice Manager
Meet
Gail Carrouth, our Veterinary Practice Manager.
Since 1994 Gail says her "top priority, is to assure
that your pets needs will be met". Her expertise in
practice development and Management systems comes from a varied
background in business management and administration.
Gail is working towards completion of the requirements
to be named a Board Certified Practice Manager. Gail
works closely with the customers, staff and community in
maintaining each and every relationship. "Teamwork makes
our dream work!". Her accolades include being the
former President of Butts County Humane Society, Butts
County 1998 Employee of the year, Butts County Chamber
of Commerce Ambassador, Master Gardner and being
involved in the Butts County Leadership Program. Gail's
special interest include working with the youth of Butts
County, golfing, boating and gardening with her two
Miniature Schnauzers, her 9 cats and Jake! Please

Our Customer Service Team
Ronne Shaw, is
half of our wonderful customer service and reception
team. Ronne processes our clients and patients and help
schedule appointments. Interestingly, Ronnie began with Brookwood Animal Clinic as a client! Ronne's interest
include Butts County Historical Society, Jackson Lake
Homeowners Association and Butts County Chamber of
Commerce. In Ronne's spare time she enjoys gardening and
living on the lake.
Our Nurses
Teresa Johnson, our Lead Veterinary Nurse and has
been on staff with Brookwood Animal Clinic for 10 years.
Teresa is passionate about her job. Teresa is in charge
of the nursing care of all of our critical care and post
surgical patients. Teresa gives each of her patients her
undivided attention and care. She continues to expand
her knowledge in the Veterinary medicine field by
attending procedural training events and taking on-line
classes. Teresa is a asset to our clinic with her
wonderful sense of humor and enduring patience and vast
knowledge of patient care. Teresa loves the outdoors,
music and spending time with her horses.
Lori Hooks, one of our Veterinary Nurses and has
been with our clinic for 8 years. Her primary
responsibilities include Surgical Admissions Nurse,
SurgicalAssistant, Discharge Nurse and often helps in
the Customer Service area. Lori takes her job as
Surgical Assistant Nurse very seriously. She provides
exceptional levels of care for all or our surgical
patients. Lori calls and notifies all the pet parents
after surgery, always placing their mind at ease. Lori
meets with pet parents again after discharge and reviews
post surgical care. These procedures are followed by a
phone call the next day so the she can check the status
of all her "babies". Lori is an experienced Ultrasound
Technician and maintains her expertise by attending
various educational classes. Lori loves to spend time
with her husband Mike, 2 dogs, Raban a teacup Yorkshire
Terrier and Oakley a Miniature Schnauzer. Lori also
loves the beach and deep sea fishing!
Janie Schower, a Veterinary Nurse has been with
our clinic for 4 years. Her responsibilities include
patient admission, outpatient nursing, post surgical
recoverymonitoring, patient processing, dental
hygienist and customer service. Janie also has expanded
her level of knowledge by participating in on-line
Veterinary educational classes. Janie loves horses and
is an avid dressage rider. Janie rides and competes at
Training Level and First Level Dressage. In addition to
her passion for horses, her dedication and loving care
for animals extends to all the four legged clients at Brookwood.
Tammie Hardin, our Outpatient Nurse, has been
with our clinic for over 4 years. Tammie assists the
doctors in outpatient care collecting valuable medical
information and determining the risk assessment of each
patient. Tammie educates our clients on housetraining,
puppy and kitten dental care, nutrition, behavior and socialization plans for each pet. Tammie also educates
the pet parents on important issues such as flea and
tick control, breeding questions, vaccinations and
parasite control and also educates clients of diseases
that can be transmitted from pet to pet parent (Zoonoses).
Tammie along with all of our health care team members
have been crossed trained in all other areas of the
practice. She is ready to spring into action whenever
needed. Tammie, her husband Steven and 3 sons live
together with 13 Tea Cup Yorkies. She is pet-focused 24
hours a day!
Our Assistants
Debbie Ellis, our Pet Care Specialist, has been
with our clinic for 4 years. Debbie was one of our "VIP"
boarding clients and we recruited her to join the staff.
Debbiegives all of her patients the ultimate level of
pampering care while staying in our boarding and day
care facility. She loves spending time exercising the
dogs outside. Debbie's two labs Britain and Chocó can
attest. Debbie after educates our clients on proper pet
care and diet. Debbie's dog "Chocó" is our poster girl,
she has lost well over 33 pounds of body weight ! adding
many more years to her wonderful life!. Debbie loves to
talk about NASCAR Racing, she loves the beach and
working in her yard with her dogs.
Our Youth Apprentices
Rachel Mathis, is no newcomer to the world of
Veterinary medicine, she has been helping out the
practice since she was a small girl. Her passion for
animals and the care for them has lead her to follow in
the footsteps of her parents, Dr. Grey and Dr. Gwyn
Mathis. Rachel will graduate from high school this year
and hopes to peruse a career in Veterinary medicine at
the University of Georgia. Rachel is working in all
areas of the clinic, assisting clients, the doctors and
the members of our health care team. Rachel's outside
interests include golf, rock climbing, spelunking,
repelling, fashion and is also an avid shopper.
Georgia Mathis, is also no newcomer to the
practice, she has been helping out since she too was a
small girl. Georgia's long-term goal is to pursue a
career in interior design and work in the Big Apple (
New York City). Georgia loves spending time with her dog
Jordan and her cat Dewey. Georgia's special interest
include rock climbing, music, guitar, swimming and
talking on the phone to all her friends. Her dynamic
personality and wonderful spirit always uplift our staff
and our pet friends. We look forward to each summer with
the girls.
